Một trong những thế mạnh của ĐHQG-HCM là hoạt động chuyển giao công nghệ với các hợp đồng trong các lĩnh vực kinh tế - kỹ thuật quan trọng của TP.HCM và các tỉnh phía Nam. Các trung tâm chuyển giao công nghệ đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc thiết lập cầu nối giữa nhà trường và doanh nghiệp, là nơi để các cán bộ khoa học thực hiện các hợp đồng chuyển giao công nghệ, tư vấn, dịch vụ KHCN. Mô hình mà ĐHQG-HCM hướng tới là các tập đoàn doanh nghiệp KH&CN có khả năng chuyển giao công nghệ mạnh, tạo ra những thành quả nổi bật đóng góp tích cực vào sự nghiệp phát triển kinh tế - xã hội của đất nước.
Hoạt động chuyển giao công nghệ, sản xuất kinh doanh trong ĐHQG-HCM bao gồm các hình thức sau:
- Triển khai công nghệ dưới dạng dự án sản xuất thử nghiệm;
- Thực hiện hợp đồng chuyển giao công nghệ: những kết quả nghiên cứu được đưa vào ứng dụng thực tế thông qua hợp đồng sản xuất, chuyển giao công nghệ với các cơ sở sản xuất;
- Tư vấn khoa học công nghệ: bao gồm việc lựa chọn, làm chủ công nghệ nhập, tư vấn về quy hoạch phát triển kinh tế xã hội và bảo vệ môi trường từng vùng, lập dự án đầu tư, khảo sát, thiết kế, lập tổng dự toán, thẩm định dự án, tư vấn đấu thầu, ...
- Tạo môi trường cho giao lưu giữa đại học với doanh nghiệp: với “Khu công nghệ phần mềm” trong hiện tại và “Công viên khoa học” trong hệ thống giáo dục đại học Việt Nam trong tương lai gần…
