Support tools for software development are out of scope of this subclause and covered by EN 50128.
Tools should be selected in accordance with needs related to development or manufacturing activities relating to system software/hardware. The selected tools should be able to cooperate. In this context, tools cooperate if the outputs from one tool have suitable contents and format for automatic input to a subsequent tool, thus minimizing the possibility of introducing human errors in the reworking of intermediate results.
The availability of suitable tools to supply their services over the whole lifetime of the system should be considered.
Additionally, for those tools that can directly affect safety, the following requirements apply:
